Have you ever seen a family on a motorcycle? It is quite a common sight here in Jakarta, especially on the outskirts of the city. The father drives the motorcycle. A son or daughter sits in front of the father. The mother sits at the back while carrying an infant. If there is another family member, then he or she sits at the back of the mother. And that's not all, they would also have luggage with them. Either a knapsack or a shoulder bag.

Isn't that just efficient?

Motorcycles here weave in and out of heavy traffic like water flowing through rocks. They are the king of the road here...well maybe second only to crossing pedestrians. Here, if a car and a motorcycle were to be involved in a vehicular accident, it will always be the car's fault. In much the same way that it will always be a vehicle's fault if it hits a pedestrian. Which is why they are the kings of the road. They can pretty much do anything they want on the road.

And that is why I enjoy where I live now...because most of the time I am on the freeway now. Where there are no motorcycles and pedestrians....well okay sometimes there are also pedestrians on the freeway but definitely no motorcycles.
